Manuscript Features

Folios from various manuscript.

  • ms. 1: folios 1 and 2
    • fol. 2v ends: āyuṣmantaṃ śāriputram etad avocat || yad kiñ cid āyuṣman sāriputra bha°
  • ms. 2: folios 1 and 2 (margins damaged, with painting, written in two hands)
    • fol. 5v ends: punar aparaṃ bhagavan bodhisatvena mahāsatvena prajñāpāramitāyāñ caratā prajñāpāramitā.. ||
  • ms. 3: folios 6-19 (written in two hands)
    • 6r begins: °ta evam upaparīkṣitavyam evam upanidhyātavyam |
    • fol. 19 ends: pratyekabuddhatvam asaṃṣkṛtaprabhāvitam iti na sthātavyaṃ buddhatvam asaskṛta(!)prabhāvitam iti na sthātavyaṃ
  • ms. 4: fols. 21-282
    • fol. 21 begins: atha khalu teṣāṃ devaputrāṇāṃ punar evaitad abhūt |
  • At the end a couple of extra folios with the same text are found. Two are numered 281 and 282. 281 begins: +++°bhir antataḥ svapnāntaragato pi, 282 ends with a colophon (end of the manuscript).
  • Another two folios belong to the end of yet another manuscript. There a colophon is found with the date samvat 717.

The main part of the manuscript (fols. 21-282) is probably much older. The name of the king is not clearly legible in the microfilm, but is likely to read Madanapāladeva (as it was suggested by PS). Also judging from the appearance and script of the manuscript, it seems possible that it was written in the 12th century. The first and last folios are damaged in the margins, the others are in good condition.
